I am Jayy, a current Financial Consultant from Peter Tan Organization (PTO®), and my manager is Janin Lau, my mentor Carolina. I used to be an Accounts Assistant before I came into this industry, doing those routine desk bound job,, and what follows would be the real story on how I came about knowing Carolina, and the changing point in my life whereby I
decided to join an industry I used to detest.

I had this aunt, who's family and her is well known amongst all my relatives for being stingy. They were always not there when money matters were discussed in family meetings. I shall not elaborate on that. But, one fine day, my mum told me something. My aunt was diagnosed with stroke, and is bedridden in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of SGH.

Being a family together, I went with my mum to visit her. She couldn't move, and there wasn't a thing my uncle could do about it either.

Two weeks later, I received another shocking news. While my aunt was bedridden, my uncle had to go around every relatives family asking for Medisave Funds to pay off my aunt's bills. It seems the bill was too much for them to afford, even with their family's savings. My dad was unwilling to, as he wasn't in the best of health himself, and thought he might need
the funds, and as a result, words spread, saying how stingy he is towards family member.

I have been pondering. Don't they have insurance? Can't they claim anything like the scene in TV dramas? Or could it be that they also find insurance a waste of money, like me?

On the other hand, I was already thinking of switching to a higher pay job, and ditch the $1800 per month's salary as an Accounts Assistant. I was being offered the post of a salesman. To sell credit cards. I heard it's good money and one can earn $5000 a month from it.

But, my life changed when I stopped for a “survey” with Carolina from Peter Tan Organization (PTO®) at a Bugis Roadshow. It was my first time being “surveyed” in a shopping centre, as I have always managed to squirm my way out of the surveyors previously. Maybe she is too fast for me.

After talking to me for less than three minutes, I immediately asked her:
Me: “Are you an insurance agent?”.
Carolina: “Yes!”
Me: “Why don't you sell credit cards instead?”
Carolina: “Ohh..... how much can you earn by selling credit cards?” (I'm sure she look convincing)
Me: “Five thousand?”
Carolina: “Why would you want to stop at five thousand (dollars)?”
Me: “How to become like you then? Show me.”

With that, she had me sit down and told me the procedures to becoming a Financal Consultant.

To date, what motivates me other than the salary, would be the good faith to educate and help more people get insurance coverage, so that lessor people would end up like my uncle, who had to beg people for money to cure his wife (my aunt). I believed it is something no one wants to happen.

I am now proudly a Financial Consultant from Peter Tan Organization (PTO®), and my manager is Janin Lau, my mentor Carolina. Visit me @ petertan.com.sg
